Connie Guttersen wrote the Sonoma diet. The principles are based around the Mediterranean Food Pyramid.
The program consists of three stages known as waves.
Wave 1
This is the most restrictive phase, which lasts for ten days. The concept is to break addictions to sugary and fatty foods.
Wave 2
It is the main weight loss phase, where each meal is created with appropriate portions. There is no need for calorie counting, special foods or supplements.
Wave 3
This is a lifelong eating pattern for weight management.
Power Foods
The Sonoma Diet singles out a list of foods that it calls power foods such as grapes, almonds, tomatoes, whole grains, bell peppers, and broccoli.
Summary
The Sonoma Diet is a healthy and balanced diet, and some see the diet as a fad. It remains an excellent diet.
