What does Rhinoplasty do?
It corrects un-aesthetic characteristics in noses such as concerns about nose size or shape. It can correct issues such as nostrils which are too large, asymmetric, or aesthetically damaged caused by trauma to the nose. It can also be used to repair a nose which has been badly broken. The Primary goal of the procedure is to correct a physical issue which is causing pain, distress, or discomfort.

What does Rhinoplasty NOT do?
Exact results of wanting someone's “famous nose” cannot be reproduce through rhinoplasty because each face has its different shape and size. The nose which looks good on one's face the same may look bad on other's face but through rhinoplasty you can make your nose more appealing.

How is Rhinoplasty performed?
Rhinoplasty can be performed under a general aesthetic, sedation, or with local anesthetic. Initially, local anesthesia, which is a mixture of lidocaine and epinephrine, is injected to numb the area and temporarily reduce vascularity.

The surgeon first separates the skin and soft tissues of the nose from the underlying structures. The cartilage and bone is reshaped, and the incisions are sutured closed. Some surgeons use a stent or packing inside the nose, followed by tape or stent on the outside. In some cases incisions may be made in the area of the skin separating the nostrils.

Incisions are made in the inside of the nose, where they are not visible. In some cases incisions may be made in the area of the skin separating the nostrils. Underlying bone and cartilage are sculpted to create the nose's new shape.

Recovery
The patient can almost always return home after the surgery. Antibiotics, pain medications, and steroid medication are often recommended after surgery.  Most people choose to remain at home after surgery. External Sutures are usually removed 4 to 5 days after surgery. Most doctors recommend ice packs over your eyes for the first 2 days to minimize swelling. The splint will be removed by your surgeon at your first post operative visit (usually a week after the surgery). You are usually able to return back to work in between 10 to 20 days with make-up.

The Results
Any definite judgments about the results of a rhinoplasty is not possible before 6 or 8 months. Be prepared that the healing and adjustment phase after rhinoplasty may be a gradual process.  You will need to get used to your new look. Positive results can be obtained and the patients can be very satisfied with the results.
