The Definition of Low-Carb
Food is made up of three primary macronutrients. They are:
- Carbohydrates (or sugars)
- Proteins
- Fats
Low-Carb means that the percentage of carbohydrates (by calorie) is low. High-Carb is 50-70% (USDA Food Pyramid), Moderate-Carb is 40-50%, Low-Carb is 25-39%, and Very Low-Carb is 0-25%.
Any diet that is in the less than 50-60% Carb Ratio is called a Low-Carb Diet.
Low Carb Diets
The following diets are "Low-Carb":
Carbohydrate Addicts, Rosedale Diet, Protein Power, South Beach Diet, Zone Diet, Fat Flush, Anne Collins Low-Carb Diet, Ketogenic Diet, Atkins, Sugar Busters, and Hampton's Diet.
