Pastor George M. Malkmus created the Hallelujah diet. He claims that by following this diet, he healed himself from cancer, but there is no medical evidence to support this.
The Basics of the Hallelujah Diet
Not having food for breakfast is recommended, and instead drink only fresh vegetable and barley grass drinks. Breakfast options are there for those who are transitioning from a standard diet and contain foods such as: almond milk, sprouted grain toast with almond butter and fresh fruit salad.
This is basically a vegan raw food diet and the guidelines are to consume 85% raw foods and 15% cooked foods. Eggs, dairy products, fish, caffeine, and alcohol are not allowed.
Recommended Foods
The 85% portion contains soaked raw oats, avocado, flax seed and olive oil, raw and fresh vegetable juices, seeds and raw nuts.
The 15% portion contains rice milk, a small amount of organic butter, steamed or baked sweet potato and squash, carob powder, raw honey and molasses, bottled fruit and vegetable juices, herb teas, cooked beans (such as lima, pinto, etc.), whole grain breads, pasta, and brown rice.

- Vegetables provide antioxidants and fiber, which helps to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease and cancer
Cons
- Many long-term followers of the diet have had problems such as: loss of muscle tone, food cravings, etc.
- Most people will not enjoy this type of eating
- Has unscientific nutritional explanations
Conclusions
This diet is very low in essential nutrients and proteins. It may be helpful as a short-term cleansing diet. Malkmus claims are not supported by current nutritional knowledge. This diet is not recommended for a long-term healthy approach to weight loss.
