Laser hair removal- the process

The hair follicles get thermal injury when the heat from the laser penetrates in. the follicles are disabled as the heat reaches them. This prevents the re-growth of the follicles. When the hair is in its growth stage, only then this process can work. All the follicles are not in the same stage at the same time. This is one of the reasons why people have to take multiple sessions for hair removal process with the help of laser. The best results can be achieved through this method only. Not all the body parts use anesthesia when being given laser radiations. Numbing can be done on some of the parts in parts where the hair growth is more. Depending on the type of hair and the area to be treated, the time limit of the surgery can vary from ten minutes to one hour.

What is involved with laser hair removal?

The area to be treated is properly shaved and cleaned. Before the laser is used on the skin, an anesthetic cream is applied. Hair follicles have pigments that absorb the concentrated light thrown on them through the laser. The pigment absorbs light and heat and damages the surrounding follicle. The procedure is not very painful and one can feel slight pricks on the area. The area treated may become red or swelled up but the effect is temporary and is gone after a few hours.

Type of laser technology

Hair removal can be done with the help of various lasers. The laser that the doctor uses on your skin should be approved by the FDA. Make sure that you gather enough knowledge about the type of laser being used on your body or face.

Recovery after the treatment

One does not need much time for recovery after laser hair removal treatment. The area can become slightly red after the treatment but this swelling or redness disappears after a few hours. Proper icing can ensure that the redness goes away fast. One should avoid sun exposure after the treatment or should use a good sunscreen. The hair growth will reappear in a few weeks but they will be dead hair that is falling out. One can bleach the area or shave the hair but not wax it. This can harm the way your treatment is going.

Are you a candidate?

If the hair color is darker than your skin, you can take this treatment and benefit from it. people with brown or black hair with fair skin are the best candidates for this type of a treatment. Red, grey and blonde hair does not respond well to this treatment as they do not have proper pigments.
