Diuretic foods and supplements help to release fluids and have no relation with reducing body fat. There are some herbs and foods that are natural diuretics, and having these foods in the diet can help in alleviating fluid retention.
Diuretic Drugs and Foods
Diuretic drugs are sometimes prescribed to people who suffer from kidney or liver disorders, heart disease and hypertension.
The foods and herbs, which have diuretic properties, are parsley, celery seed (and plant), dandelion, asparagus, artichoke, juniper berries, and melon.
Other foods, which are common in the Western Diet and also have diuretic effects, are tea, coffee and Coke.
Diuretic Diet Plans
A diuretic diet plan can help in relieving symptoms of PMS such as headaches and bloating.
- Eat small amounts of starchy carbohydrates such as breads, rice, etc.
- Sugar foods must be avoided
- Eat fruits and vegetables
- Salt and salty food products must be avoided
- Drink plenty of water and herbal teas
NOTE: It is recommended not to take diuretic supplements for more than a few days because essential minerals and nutrients can also be flushed out with the fluids.
